We're Back. Things Have Changed.
If you've been here before, you know Call Your Girlfriend as a podcast. Nearly 200 episodes about friendship, relationships, culture, and the messy ways people try to connect with each other. That chapter's done, but we never really stopped paying attention.
In the meantime, something wild happened. Millions of people started talking to AI. Not just for work — for companionship. AI girlfriends, AI boyfriends, virtual friends. Apps like Replika, Character.AI, and Candy AI that remember your birthday and ask how your day went. It sounds like something we would have done an entire episode about. Probably two.
So instead of letting this site sit still, we're putting it to work again.
Here's what we're doing:
Reviewing AI companion apps — the way no one else is
Not sterile feature lists or paid placements. We're testing these apps the way you actually use them — signing up, chatting for days, hitting the paywall, seeing what's real and what's marketing. Then we're writing about it like two friends comparing notes over coffee. Honest, specific, sometimes uncomfortable.
If you've ever wondered whether Replika is worth it or what Candy AI actually does after the free trial ends, we'll have answers. You can find all our reviews here.
Writing about how technology is changing relationships right now
AI companions are just one piece of it. The way people date, make friends, deal with loneliness — all of it is shifting fast. The Surgeon General called loneliness an epidemic and the data backs it up. We want to make sense of what's happening without the hype or the panic.
Digging into the numbers
The AI girlfriend market is massive and growing in ways most people don't realize. We'll break down the stats, the trends, and what they actually mean — not just throw data at you.
The episode archive isn't going anywhere. But going forward, this is where we write about relationships and technology — starting with AI girlfriends, because that's where the most interesting and strangest stuff is happening right now.
